Ethan is now almost 4 weeks post op. We had a followup Ortho appt on Thursday for xrays and his rods look good. Healing has started but the bones are nowhere near healed. Despite this, Ethan has been up and taking a few steps last week while holding onto our hands.
This past weekend we went to a Camp in Southern, KY called CCK (Camp for Courageous Kids). The camp is for kids with disabilities and they have family retreat weekends for a multitude of conditions throughout the year. They also have week long summer camps for older children. This past weekend the camp was for OI kids. On our first evening there, everyone gathers in the gym to get acquainted and play before the opening remarks and dinner. Ethan was wheeling around in the wheelchair, having a good time playing with the other kids, passing a ball, etc. He then saw another kid's walker and asked to use it. I didn't expect him to be able to go far, but thought why not. So, we borrowed Mer's walker and I put E down.......and this is what he did......
He took off like the energizer bunny and walked all over the place (with the walker). He even fell a few times, probably because his legs are still weak, but when I would try to help him he told me, 'No, I DO IT' and then when he got up on his own, he was so proud of himself and yelled, 'I did it, I did it' with a big smile on his face.
We had fun at camp, but missed some of the events. Ethan is sick with a cold and needed to rest, so he slept through some of the activities but he was still able to enjoy the horses, fishing in the pond, campfire, and swimming in the zero entry pool, as well as playing with the other kids.
